The Academy of Medical Sciences and Health of Catalonia and the Balearic Islands collaborates with the Foundation

With this new cooperation agreement, the Academy and the Barcelona Macula Foundation have joined forces for a single purpose: the promotion and dissemination of research, in this particular case, into studies related to the macula and retina disease which lead to blindness and which lack effective treatment.

The Director of the Barcelona Macula Foundation, Dr. Jordi Monés says “we are sure that collaboration between the two entities will enable the creation of projects which allow us to benefit from our joint potential and resources. The sum of both parties’ ideas will provide a new boost to research work in the field of the macula and the retina in Catalonia and the Balearic Islands”.

Among these activities, the collaboration establishes the desire to create projects which allow the entities to work together in marrying and reinforcing the ideas, resources and action within the scope of their scientific and healthcare work.

The Academy of Medical Sciences and Health of Catalonia and the Balearic Islands was founded in 1872 as a forum and venue for health professionals from Catalonia, the Balearic Islands, Valencia and Andorra to meet. The Academy’s essential aim is to promote continuous training through the furtherance of health sciences in all their aspects: human, technical, social and civic, from the perspectives of healthcare, teaching and research. It is an independent institution at the service of the country and is not connected to any official body.
