Breakthrough in the treatment of blindness due to AMD

Today La Vanguardia has published the article “Improving the treatment of a common cause of blindness” by journalist Josep Corbella.

This paper describes an experimental treatment based on a combination of two drugs that improve the treatment of one of the most common causes of blindness, according to results of an international study which involved 449 patients from Spain and other countries. People with age-related macular degeneration (AMD) experience a progressive loss of vision and in advanced cases may experience functional blindness.

Dr. Jordi Mones, the director of the Barcelona Macula Foundation: Research for Vision, has coordinated the spanish participating centers.
