Dr. Monés visits Sant Joan de Déu Hospital to explain the current state of research into Stargardt’s disease

The BMF’s Medical Director, Dr. Jordi Monés, has led a session with a team of retinologists from Sant Joan de Déu Hospital (HSJD, Esplugues, Barcelona) to explain the developments in research and new treatments for retinal dystrophies.

In the session in early October, Dr. Monés examined the procedures related to gene therapy, optogenetics and cell fusion therapy, providing details about how these vary and the advantages and disadvantages of each. The talk was the first of the contacts between the BMF and the HSJD, a benchmark in paediatrics in Spain, which are aimed at establishing collaborations in the research of therapies for Stargardt’s disease.
