Dr. Jordi Monés, interviewed on TV programme Para Todos la 2
Dr. Jordi Monés MD, PhD, the Medical Director of the Barcelona Macula Foundation and the Director of the Institut de la Màcula i de la Retina, has appeared in an interview on the Spanish state broadcaster RTVE.
Speaking on the programme Para Todos la 2, Dr. Monés explained diseases that cause blindness like Age-Related Macular Degeneration, Retinitis Pigmentosa and Stargardt’s Disease. He also described the research into these diseases that the Barcelona Macula Foundation constantly carries out.
Dr. Monés was very optimistic about both the future of these diseases and the research. “In 10 or 15 years, there will be treatment for currently incurable diseases”, he said.
Consequently, finding solutions for Pigmentary Retinosis and Stargardt’s Disease is “a matter of time” as “technology enables great progress to be made in research”.
Dr. Monés also spoke of the progress made in controlling Age-Related Macular Degeneration in its wet or exudative form. Despite the fact that the atrophic or dry variant is incurable at present, the initial results of the clinical trials are now being obtained.
