Dr. Jordi Monés receives the prize bestowed on FC Barcelona by aecc-Catalonia Against Cancer

The Spanish Association Against Cancer (aecc)-Catalonia Against Cancer of Barcelona has honoured FC Barcelona for its social care approach in fighting cancer and for the implementation and the success of the project “Quit Smoking with Barça”, which banned smoking from the football club’s facilities and issued an invitation to all fans to give up.

Dr. Jordi Monés, the Medical Director of the Barcelona Macula Foundation and the Director of FC Barcelona’s Medical and Performance Area, accepted the prize on behalf of the club. “It was an honour to promote this initiative and make Barça the first club in the country to ban smoking in its stadium”. The doctor also pointed out that the project had become a reality thanks to the efforts of the Board of Directors and “above all, the club members, who backed the decision and who are the ones to have stopped smoking in the ground”.

The Spanish Association Against Cancer is a national private social organisation that works with health authorities, scientific institutions and those other bodies that share the same purpose with the Association, to provide help against cancer.
