Rare Disease Day 2017: We won’t surrender!
International Rare Disease Day 2017 is celebrated today, with its focus placed on research. We at the Barcelona Macula Foundation feel the challenge of this argument as research is our raison d’être and two of diseases that drive us are indeed rare: Retinitis Pigmentosa and Stargardt’s disease.
The BMF’s Medical Director, Dr. Jordi Monés, states that the progress made by science in a host of fields means «the day when we can use gene therapy or regenerative therapy with stem cells is coming ever closer». Dr. Monés concludes the Foundation’s message in support of #RareDiseaseDay by declaring that «with research, our possibilities are endless. We won’t surrender».
