World Health Day celebrated today

Today, April 7, we celebrate World Health Day. This is when we mark the founding of the World Health Organisation (WHO). As every year, everyone is invited to join forces in the fight against disease, a cause to which the Barcelona Macula Foundation is always committed.

The main theme of World Health Day in 2014 is disease transmitted by vectors, that is, small animals that infect an individual who then inadvertently passes it on to others. For this reason, these pathologies in an initial phase can affect the populations of various countries without them being unaware. Although some of the vectors can cause eye disease, this is not very common.

Dr. Jordi Monés, the Medical Director of the Barcelona Macula Foundation, and all his team stress the need and importance of research in resolving all today’s diseases that have no cure and affect the whole planet. “Every day is important for attempting to find a solution to the diseases that still lack one. We at the Barcelona Macula Foundation are committed to research in order to fight and improve the quality of life of our patients”, Dr. Monés says.

Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD), Stargardt’s Disease and Pigmentary Retinosis are three of the pathologies that the Barcelona Macula Foundation is attempting to resolve at present.
